Taking your dog for a walk is one of the best things you can do for its physical and emotional state, apart from strengthening the bond between the two of you. However, if you use an inadequate leash, you might be hurting your dog without even knowing it.

Chokers

These types of collars are especially dangerous for dogs and their use is linked with fainting, bruises, paralysis, spine injuries, and it might even have psychological consequences.

Shockers

Dogs carrying shockers might suffer from physical injuries and burns as well as psychological stress and aggression. Every dog has its own unique personality and this is why you can never know how they will react to shock. What might be a mild shock for one dog can cause greater damage to another. Anxiety and confusion you bring to your dog by imposing such collars might cause respiratory problems and even gastrointestinal disorders.

Ordinary collar with a buckle

Wearing this kind of a collar which enables you to put a name tag of your dog on it- is an ideal solution. But pulling your dog’s neck is a bad one. A leash on the neck, even those with a simple buckle can be very painful for dogs as it creates additional pressure on the trachea, spine and esophagus and therefore it is to be avoided.

When it comes to safety and comfort, using a harness when taking your dog for a walk is always the best choice.  Not only that it releases the pressure from its neck but it also makes it easier to pull your dog should it be in danger. There are plenty of harnesses to choose from, whether they buckle up on the front or the back side your pet.
